Search engine optimization (SEO) is actually a component of search engine marketing whilst Search engine marketing (SEM) is the process of marketing a website via Internet search engines; whether by improving rank in organic or natural listings, paid or sponsored listings or a combination thereof.

SEO & SEM are for two different purposes. SEO is for getting higher rankings on search engine results while SEM is for targeting the traffic of the search engine viability.

In Short,
seo is free and long term process.
sem is paid and short term process.

SEM differs from SEO in the reality that SEM is a paid assistance and can allow near quick effects, while SEO is a additional long-term, natural approach, and can bring time to earn the better search engine rankings you are after.
