Mapping business processes for database development

Postby Sofia » Wed May 02, 2012 8:59 am

Hi, I'm a web developer for students. I am greatly pleased with the database design and development, but wrestling with some peripheral (?) Appearance.

In order to create a database system for a business, how an analyzing the process of the latter, without prior knowledge thereof.

I've looked at UML activity diagrams and IDEF0/IDEF3 for process mapping, but I have curiosity about how it's done in the "real world". I have a relatively short report to write about it and I worry that I'm in 'very deep'.

Any advice / direction would be appreciated.

You do not! because you are wrong.

The only really sensible way is to ask the people in that particular business for whom you work. It is good to do this is how I think it works or should work

Certainly, you can map the process flow charts or graphs, but to know the process of taking the experience.

There are plenty of well-publicized examples of developers doing it wrong, even after consultation, usually because they did not consult with the managers of the people who actually do the work!
